Psychedelic therapy has a continuity-of-care problem. People often pursue treatment outside their existing mental health care, leaving their therapists disconnected from potentially significant therapeutic experiences.

MycoMeditations is working to change that with the Bridge, a new program designed to connect clients’ existing mental health practitioners with the clinical team delivering their psilocybin-assisted therapy in Jamaica.

“The person who knows a guest’s mental health history best is often the therapist they’ve been working with for years,” said Justin Townsend, Co-Founder and CEO of MycoMeditations. “The Bridge brings that relationship into the process, helping us build on the work already done and supporting continued progress once guests return home.”

At the heart of The Bridge is a framework MycoMeditations calls bidirectional case transfer (BCT). With the client’s consent, their existing practitioner can share relevant treatment history and therapeutic insights with the retreat team before arrival. Following the retreat, MycoMeditations provides a clinical summary to support ongoing care.

The result is a more connected therapeutic journey, rather than two separate treatment experiences.

“As a therapist myself, I understand how valuable this information can be in supporting the therapeutic work that continues long after the retreat ends,” said Sadie Watts, Lead Therapist and Guest Intake Manager at MycoMeditations. “Ultimately, this wraparound service is designed to help guests better carry the insights and lessons from psychedelic therapy into their everyday lives, with ongoing support from the professionals who know and care for them.”

MycoMeditations believes the Bridge represents one of the first formalized programs of its kind offered by a psychedelic retreat provider, and hopes its approach will encourage wider adoption of collaborative care across the industry.

The Bridge is available at no additional cost to guests and participating practitioners, including psychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, counselors, and coaches.
